Sectional garage door repairs and installation

A sectional door is made of horizontal panels joined by hinges. It runs up on tracks and parks under the ceiling, which keeps the driveway and the garage walls clear. It's the door most people choose for a new build or renovation.

Sectional doors are balanced by torsion springs and cables under high tension. When a spring snaps or a cable slips off the drum, the door can't be lifted safely. We replace springs in matched pairs, fit new cables, and replace worn rollers and hinges so the door runs quietly again.

How we repair a sectional door

  1. Make it safe

We secure the door before touching springs or cables. Torsion springs store a lot of energy.

  2. Replace the worn parts

Springs, cables, rollers, hinges or panels are replaced with parts rated for your door's weight.

  3. Balance the door

Spring tension is set so the door stays put at half-open with the motor disengaged.

  4. Test the safety systems

We check the auto-reverse and any safety beams before handing it back.

Questions we get asked

Why replace both springs if only one broke?

Springs on a door are the same age and have done the same number of cycles. If one has failed, the other usually isn't far behind. Replacing both saves a second call-out and keeps the door balanced.

Can I fit a sectional door if my garage has low headroom?

Often yes. Low-headroom track kits are available for many doors. We measure on site to confirm.

Are sectional doors insulated?

Some are. Insulated panels help keep the garage cooler in summer and quieter, which matters if there's a room above.
