Tilt garage door repairs

Tilt doors are a single large panel that pivots up and back into the garage. You'll find plenty of them on older homes and in apartment blocks around Maroubra, Kingsford and Randwick, often clad to match the house.

They rely on long extension springs and pivot arms on each side. When a spring weakens the door becomes heavy and drops when you let go; when a pivot wears it binds and scrapes. We replace springs and arms, re-balance the door and can add a motor to a manual tilt door.

Tilt door repair process

  1. Inspect both sides

We check springs, arms, brackets and the frame on both sides, since wear is usually uneven.

  2. Replace springs and arms

Springs are matched to the door's weight, which changes if the door has cladding.

  3. Re-balance

The door is adjusted so it lifts smoothly and stays open.

  4. Optional motor

If you want to stop lifting it by hand, we fit a tilt-door motor kit.

Questions we get asked

Can you motorise my tilt door?

Most tilt doors can take a motor, provided the door is balanced and the frame is sound. We'll check both at the visit.

My tilt door is clad in timber. Can you still fix it?

Yes. Cladding adds weight, so we choose springs for the total weight, not the original door.

Should I replace a tilt door with a sectional?

If you need space in front of the garage or want insulation, a sectional is worth considering. If your tilt door is sound, repairing it is usually much cheaper.
